    Premium Quality Drum Sander Rolls From Red Label Abrasives

    Red Label manufactures affordable, industrial grade drum sander rolls to save you money without sacrificing quality. These rolls are designed to be used for drum sanders (sometimes called barrel sanders, cylinder sanders, or surface sanders). All you need to do is cut to length and taper the ends to be able to load a new strip into your sander. 

    Types Of Drum Sander Strip Rolls We Offer

    Red Label Abrasives manufactures drum sander strip rolls with two different abrasive grains and two different coatings. We’ve provided a brief overview of each below. Our abrasive technicians can also help you decide on the best roll to meet your needs. 

    • Open coat aluminum oxide: Open coat aluminum oxide is the industry standard for sanding softer woods. The open coating creates more space between abrasive grains, which provides more airflow. This additional airflow helps keep surfaces cool while sanding and helps to combat clogging (which is a common issue with softer woods that produce a lot of debris).
    • Closed coat aluminum oxide: Closed coat aluminum oxide offers more grain coverage than open coat aluminum oxide. The additional grains provide a more aggressive cut, which is desired for metals and hardwoods. You’ll want to use closed coat aluminum oxide for woods like oak, maple, hickory, walnut, and cherry. 
    • Zirconia: Zirconia is a stronger abrasive grain compared to aluminum oxide. It can save you time when sanding harder materials and it will also last longer than aluminum oxide. Zirconia is best for metals and hardwoods.  

    In addition to being available in three different grain types, our drum sanding rolls are also available with two different backing materials: 

    • Plain cloth: Our cloth backed rolls are produced with a durable x-weight polyester backing. X-weight cloth is a heavy, strong, and stiff cloth. It will provide a long lifespan and a consistent finish. 
    • Felt: Our felt backed rolls are designed for hook and loop (think velcro) drum sanders. The material is also an x-weight polyester, but it includes loops to easily attach to the hooks on your drum. 

    Why Buy Sandpaper Rolls Instead Of Sandpaper Strips For Your Drum Sander?

    You can buy drum sander strips that are already pre-cut and ready to load into your sander. Personally, we think this isn’t worth it. On average, you’ll spend 300% more on pre-cut strips to save five minutes of work. Cutting your own sanding strips from sanding rolls is the most economical option, and it’s easy to cut your own strips from rolls. Our rolls also provide 50 to 70 feet in length, so you’ll have to re-stock less frequently. 

    How To Cut Your Own Drum Sanding Strips

    Cutting your own sanding strips from our drum sanding rolls isn’t a very difficult process. The trick to cutting strips is to trip the leading edge, so that the angled edge matches the drum’s circumference. You can also save time by tracing your cuts with an old drum sander strip if you have one available.
