Discover the superior performance of Red Label’s silicon carbide sanding belts. Our belts are engineered for exceptional durability and precision. Silicon carbide belts deliver a consistently sharp cut, making them perfect for finishing work. Regardless of your application, our belts provide the reliability and efficiency that professionals and DIY enthusiasts alike demand.
Unlike aluminum oxide, zirconia, and ceramic, which can be used for a variety of different applications, silicon carbide is more of a specialty abrasive that excels in very specific applications. Silicon carbide is a highly friable grain. This means that the grain breaks very easily producing new sharp surfaces with each break. Other types of abrasives cut finer and finer as they wear down, but silicon carbide cuts at the same rate through the entire life of the belt. As such, silicon carbide provides a very consistent cut, but it may not last as long as some other grains. For this reason, silicon carbide is commonly used for finishing work to create an even finish. Knifemakers will also often use these belts for sharpening because of how consistent the grains remain.
Another unique feature of silicon carbide is its ability to remove material without generating excessive heat buildup. Silicon carbide’s heat-mitigating properties make it the perfect grain to choose for heat-sensitive materials. Silicon carbide belts are often the belt of choice for sanding stone, plastic, fiberglass, concrete, glass, stabilized woods, resins, and epoxy. Therefore, silicon carbide sanding belts may be the best option for you if you need a consistent finish, or if you’re working with a heat-sensitive material.
Our belts are produced in an array of different sizes and grits to meet the varying needs of makers. We produce Silicon Carbide belts in sizes ranging from 1” x 30” up to 6” x 90”.
